September 2018

The New York State Social Studies Supervisory Association is an an autonomous organization within the New York State Social Studies Council for the Social Studies.   NYS4A represents the voice of the Social Studies Supervisor — so we need to hear your voice!  If you’re interested in getting involved with NYS4A — you can add a payment of $15.00 to your NYSCSS dues.  Visit the NYSCSS membership page to do that.  You’re also invited to join our Google Group for Social Studies administrators, curriculum leaders and supervisors around the state.  We need to stay connected — now even more than before!  Email me at lisa.kissingernys4a@nyscss.org if you’d like to be added to this group.

At our March 2018 Annual Business meeting and networking session for Social Studies Supervisors — we talked about the importance of staying connected to each other in these fast-moving times!  We want to begin sharing resources, ideas, successes and failures as we work with our departments to enact changes in the 2014 NYSED Social Studies Curriculum Framework and prepare for the new Global History & Geography II and U.S. History & Government Regents exams. Check out the link to our public Google Drive folder on the NYS4A website, http://nyscss.org/new-york-state-social-studies-supervisory-association-nys4a/.

If you are a new member to the New York Council for the Social Studies – please consider becoming a member of NYS4A. As the statewide association of social studies leaders, we provide representation, advocacy for, and support to supervisors/administrators throughout the state.

Please reach out to me at any time this year — let me know what you’re thinking and how you would like to participate.

Sincerely,

Lisa Kissinger
